Our Routes

Frozen Waterfall – introduction to ski touring

This tour is ideal for beginners, even for those who have never skied before. The route with gentle elevation leads to the beautiful Szökő Waterfall.

The Rákosi-Sáté bog is one of the most well-preserved peat bogs in Transylvania. It is located on the northeastern slope of Madaras Harghita (1800 m), surrounded by spruce forests.

The area covers approximately 25–30 hectares at an altitude of 1600–1700 m. The volcanic terrain creates a stepped landscape, while slow-flowing springs form unique peat habitats. Many Ice Age relic species can be found here, most of them listed as protected species.

Where the slope becomes steeper, the water reappears and forms the Szökő Waterfall.

Duration: 3–4 hours
Starting point: Madaras Harghita
Distance: 4.5 km
Elevation gain: 170 m
Difficulty: beginner

Harghita Classic

This route showcases the most iconic attractions of Madaras Harghita, including the peak and the Szökő Waterfall.

One of the main highlights is the Madaras Harghita Peak – the highest point of the range. Known as the “sacred mountain of the Székely people,” it offers breathtaking panoramic views. In clear weather, the Southern Carpathians can also be seen.

The southern slopes are rich in springs that create unique wetland habitats with rare plant species.

Duration: 1 day
Starting point: Madaras Harghita
Distance: 8 km
Elevation gain: 370 m

Hidden Rákosi

Rákosi Peak is one of the most beautiful yet less visited peaks in the Harghita Mountains. Its remote location offers a true off-the-beaten-path experience.

The tour starts from Madaras Harghita towards Harghita Bai, crossing the Sáté alpine bog and continuing through untouched conifer forests on unmarked paths until reaching a steep rocky ridge.

The panoramic view from the top is well worth the effort.
