Balan City – Piatra Singuratica – Varful Ascutit – Balan City - Mountain circuit!

Duration: 6–8 hours (with breaks)
This spectacular hiking tour can be completed all year round and does not require technical experience, yet offers rich natural experiences and breathtaking panoramas in the Hășmaș Mountains.
The tour starts from Bălan City, near the church parking area. We follow the valley of Pârâul Fierarilor, first along an easy road, then transitioning onto a mountain trail that gradually climbs through spruce forests.
As we gain altitude, the forest opens into clearings, revealing increasingly beautiful views toward Vârful Ascuțit (Ecem) and the vast scree slopes at its base.
In the final section of the ascent, the trail crosses steeper slopes and leads us to the mountain hut below Piatra Singuratică, where we can take a well-deserved break. For the more adventurous, there is the option to climb the iconic rock tower.
From here, we continue toward the karst plateau of Vârful Ascuțit (1707 m). The route passes through alpine meadows, spruce forests and areas rich in crystal-clear springs.
Once on the plateau, a truly exceptional panoramic viewpoint awaits. From here you can admire:
Ceahlău Massif (to the north)
Călimani and Rodnei Mountains (north and northwest)
Harghita volcanic range (west)
Ciucaș, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului (south)
The descent can be done either on the same route or on more adventurous paths, across rocky terrain and wildlife trails.
From the hut, we descend along Pârâul Scaunului, returning to Bălan City. The stunning silhouette of the Hășmaș Mountains in the light of sunset will remain an unforgettable memory.
