Sânpaul Fishing Lakes – Fishing and relaxation!
Located just 16 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc, heading southeast at the intersection of county roads 131 and 134, Sânpaul is a quiet Székely village with a population of around 500. On its outskirts lies one of the most well-known fish farms and fishing lakes in Harghita County.
The area of the lakes was once marshland due to its unique geological soil structure. With the creation of the fishing lakes, the surroundings transformed into a rich natural habitat with diverse wildlife, making it an ideal destination today for both relaxation and fishing.
Fishing Experience
Several fishing methods can be successfully practiced on the lake:
light tackle fishing (match, pole fishing)
feeder and bottom fishing
spinning for predatory fish
The fish stock is diverse: carp, grass carp, crucian carp, and bream are present, along with predators such as pike, zander, and catfish. In spring and autumn, spinning can be especially productive, particularly near the reed beds.
The average depth of the lake is 1.5–2 meters, with some areas reaching 3–4 meters, providing excellent conditions for fish throughout the year.
Competition Fishing
The lake is also popular among competition anglers. On the western side, a specially designed fishing sector allows for competitions with up to 40 participants.
Carp Fishing (Boilie)
In recent years, the lake has become increasingly popular among carp anglers. The average carp size is 4–5 kg, but catches of 8–10 kg are common, and specimens of 13–14 kg have also been recorded.
Important: Night fishing is not allowed.
Basic Rules
Fishing is allowed only with a valid permit
Mandatory equipment: landing net and keepnet
Maximum 4 rods per angler
Each rig may have up to 2 hooks
Please respect the designated fishing spots
Fishing from boats and bait placement by boat is prohibited
Please maintain silence and cleanliness
Size Restrictions
Noble fish under 1 kg must be released
Carp and grass carp over 3.9 kg must also be released
Important Information
Swimming in the lake is prohibited
Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility
Littering is strictly forbidden – please keep your fishing spot clean
In case of rule violations, fishing may be suspended

Sport Fishing (Catch & Release Lake)
In the sport fishing area, only catch & release (C&R) fishing is allowed:
Maximum 4 rods, each with a single hook
All fish must be released immediately after weighing and photographing
The use of a carp mat and antiseptic is mandatory
Braided shock leaders are not allowed
Fishing spots are available only with prior reservation
